Suicide bomber hits Kurdish security agency in Syria-UPDATE

World Bulletin / News Desk

A suicide bomber set off a truck bomb outside offices of a Kurdish security agency in northeastern Syria on Wednesday, killing at least 10 people, a Kurdish official and the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack against the Asayish security force in the northeastern city of Qamishli, which is mostly controlled by a Kurdish militia that has been battling ISIL in northern Syria.

The Kurdish official said two members of the Asayish had also died in the attack. The Asayish is an internal security agency set up by the autonomous security administration in northern Syria.

Kurdish security forces in northern Syria have emerged as a major partner in the U.S.-led campaign against ISIL, and have seized wide areas of territory from the group this year, backed by U.S.-led air strikes.
