The National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces appealed to the Egyptian interim government to keep on helping Syrian asylum seekers.

Stating that it was important that the humanitarian gates remain open, the coalition said "Syrians living in Egypt and other countries depend on the laws of those countries. The special occasions in those countries which host Syrians should be respected. We are thankful for the hospitable attitude of Egypt to Syrians. We expect the continuation of Egyptian aid to Syrians."

More than 20,000 Syrian asylum seekers are living in Egypt according to the figures issued by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
