As of next year, the Syrian Ministry of Education has announced that schools in Syria will teach Russian as a second foreign language after English. The language will be offered as part of the curriculum alongside French for children between the seventh and twelfth grades.
Education Minister Hozan Al-Waz declared that the ministry had completed all preparations to teach Russian as a second foreign language in a number of schools starting from the next academic year. These preparations included designing the teaching curriculum and recruiting the teachers.
