The Geneva II convention, which was organized to bring an end to the three-year-old civil war in Syria, has certainly not got off to a positive start.
Although two six-meter long tables have been set up so that both Syrian government representatives and opposition leaders face each other, there has been no direct contact between the two sides.
Instead, the two sids communicate via UN mediator Lakhdar Brahimi.
There are no handshakes to start the meetings, nor are there ant handshakes, hugs or smiles at the end of them.
Notably, neither regime representatives nor opposition figures hang the Syria flag before them.
