The leader of the newfound Turkmen National Movement Party in Syria, Dr. Muhammed Vecih Cuma, has called on Syrian Turkmens to form their own parties in order to preserve their cultural identity.
Uttering his belief that Turkmens will play a key role in reconstructing the Syrian state, despite all of the problems it is facing, he added that his party is dedicated to protect and promote the rights of the Turkmens in the country.
Speaking in Istanbul, Turkey, besides Syrian National Council leader George Sabra, the two stressed the importance of standing united, while praising Turkey for keeping its promises to the Syrian people.
Both Sabra and Syrian Opposition and Revolutionary Forces National Coalition leader Fayiz Sare expressed their pleasure at the launching of the new party, with Sare stating that this was a natural right for all Syrians wishing to have their voices heard.
There are no sound figures stating the Turkmen population of Syria, but most estimates state there are between 750,000 and 1.5 million, most of whom live in the north close to the Turkish border.Last Mod: 03 Mart 2014, 12:30
