UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs Jeffrey D. Feltman is due to arrive in Cairo on Saturday on a two-day visit to Egypt for talks with senior Egyptian officials, a UN diplomatic source in Cairo said.
The UN diplomat will meet with Foreign Minister Nabil Fahmi for talks on Egypt's democratic transition, respect of human rights and the need for holding fair and trials, the source said on condition of anonymity.
Feltman is also expected to meet Arab League Secretary-General Nabil al-Arabi to discuss a wide range of regional issues, including the crisis in Syria.
Special UN coordinator for Lebanon Sir Derek Plumbly and Major General Iqbal Singh Singha, the Head of Mission and Force Commander of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) had arrived in Cairo on Friday.
The two UN officials are expected to meet Feltman as well as attending a UN regional meeting in the Egyptian capital, the UN diplomatic source said.
