Turkey hits four ISIL targets in northern Syria

World Bulletin / News Desk

Turkish fighter jets hit four ISIL targets in northern Syria as part of Operation Euphrates Shield, the military said on Friday.

The Turkish General Staff said in a statement four targets were destroyed between 9.34 a.m. and 9:44 a.m. local time (0634 – 0644GMT) in three different areas of northern Syria.

Operation Euphrates Shield, which was launched on Aug. 24, aims at improving security, supporting coalition forces and eliminating the extremist threat along Turkey’s border using Free Syrian Army fighters backed by Turkish armor, artillery and jets.

Syria has been locked in a vicious civil war since early 2011 when the regime of Bashar al-Assad cracked down on pro-democracy protests.
