An Egyptian police conscript was killed on Saturday when he was mistakenly shot by a colleague in the central province of Beni Sueif, a security official said.
Preliminary investigations showed that Abdel-Rahim Qenawi, 23, was killed by mistake by a shot from his colleague's gun at the Abu Sleim Central Security camp, Beni Sueif security chief Ibrahim Hudeib told reporters.
Meanwhile, a medical source at the Beni Sueif General Hospital confirmed that the conscript was shot in the chest.
Another policeman was shot dead Saturday in the central Fayoum province on the background of a blood feud, a security source said.
Ali Ahmed Saad, 22, a traffic policeman, was gunned down by unidentified people riding a cab, the source told Anadolu Agency.
According to the source, Saad had tried to defend himself but he failed.
The source linked the killing to a vendetta between the victim's family and the attackers.
Vendettas, especially tribal ones, are common in Egypt. In many cases, feuds between local families can be traced back decades.
When such vendettas occur, the government is often involved in the mediation and reconciliation efforts that follow to end the feud.
