The United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Saturday invited Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi for an official visit.

The invitation was delivered to the Tunisian President by UAE Development and International Cooperation Minister Lubna Khalid al-Qasimi, the Tunisian presidency said.

It added in a statement that Essebsi discussed means of bolstering bilateral ties between his country and the UAE with al-Qasimi.

The presidency did not, however, mention information about the date of the Tunisian President's expected visit to the Gulf state.

Essebsi won Tunisia's presidential elections in late 2014.
