An Emirate court on Tuesday sentenced 30 nationals and Egyptians to jail terms ranging between three months and five years on charges of forming an illegal branch of Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood in the Gulf country.
According to judicial sources, the verdicts delivered by the Federal Supreme Court in Abu Dhabi against the defendants – 20 Egyptians and 10 Emirates – are final and cannot be appealed.
They were also fined $830 each, the sources added.
The ruling stipulates that the Egyptians, six of whom were tried in absentia, should be deported from the country after serving their sentences.
The group were charged with establishing an illegal branch of Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood in the UAE and stealing confidential documents from the security services.
The defendants denied all the charges and claimed they had been tortured in detention.Güncelleme Tarihi: 21 Ocak 2014, 14:24
