UNSC to hold emergency session on Yemen

The United Nations Security Council is set to hold an emergency meeting on Yemen on Sunday amid a deteriorating security situation in the country.

The session was requested by Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, who escaped to the southern port city of Aden in February after the capital Sanaa was occupied by the Houthi group, diplomats said.

In a letter to the Security Council, Hadi urged the Council to take action against the alleged coup against his government by Iran-allied Houthis.

The meeting, which is scheduled at 3 p.m. (1900GMT), comes a day after the U.S. evacuated its remaining personnel from Yemen, citing a worsening security situation.
