Security forces in Yemen's western Al-Hudaydah province used teargas to disperse a demonstration staged by separatist activists to protest recent police raids in the province.
Security forces broke up protests held by activists from the Al-Tohami group after the latter blocked roads with burning tires in the city of Al-Hudaydah, eyewitnesses said.
The group has called for demonstrations to decry an ongoing crackdown on dissidents, with activists citing the arrest of a number of their colleagues and police raids on their homes in recent weeks.
A security source, speaking to Anadolu Agency on condition of anonymity, accused activists of "provoking" security forces by blocking roads and burning tires.
The group, which accuses the central government of marginalizing the province and failing to provide basic services, calls for the secession of Al-Hudaydah from the rest of the country.Güncelleme Tarihi: 22 Ocak 2014, 15:15
