At least 50 Palestinians were injured in clashes in Jerusalem on Monday between Palestinian mourners and Israeli soldiers during the funeral of a 16-year-old teen who succumbed to injuries sustained by Israeli gunfire last week.

Israeli troops used stun grenades, rubber bullets and teargas to disperse Palestinians protesting against the death of Mohamed Abdul-Majid Sinokrot.

At least 50 Palestinians were injured in the clashes, a medical source, who works with the Palestinian Red Crescent, told Anadolu Agency.

He said that three of the injured victims were taken to hospital.

The clashes took place just a few hundreds meters away from Sinokrot's home in Jerusalem's Wadi al-Joz neighborhood and in the Old City.

"Israeli security forces arrested three Palestinians as they are patrolling the East Jerusalem to prevent further escalations," Israeli police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld told Anadolu Agency

Wrapped in a Palestinian flag, the body of the Palestinian teen was brought by ambulance to his home earlier Monday.

A massive crowd carried the dead teen to Al-Aqsa Mosque from his home, chanting “with our soul, with our blood, we would sacrifice anything for you (the slain boy)” and “revenge!”

Sinokrot received a rubber bullet injury in the head last week during clashes with Israeli troops who raided Wadi al-Joz neighborhood.

Following his injury, Sinokrot was taken to a nearby hospital before he was transferred to Israel's Hadassah Ein Karem medical center in West Jerusalem. He died, however, on Sunday.

Eyewitnesses accused the Israeli troops of directly targeting the boy and shooting him at a close distance.

Israel occupied East Jerusalem during the 1967 Middle East War. It later annexed the holy city in 1980, claiming it as the capital of the self-proclaimed Jewish state – a move never recognized by the international community.
