An Arab member of the Israeli Knesset, Ahmad Tibi, held Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu responsible for the recent abduction and killing of a Palestinian teen by suspected Jewish settlers.
Speaking to Anadolu Agency outside a tent set up to receive condolences for Mohamed Hussien Abu Khdeer whose charred body was found on Wednesday in a Jerusalem forest, Tibi said he has no doubt that the murder was committed by "some radical Israelis.”
“Those Israelis who abducted and brutally killed this Palestinian teen are influenced by some rabbis and Israeli ministers. Therefore I hold Netanyahu responsible for it,” Tibi added.
Footage taken from a security camera near Abu Khdeer's home in Shuafat district showed what appeared to be Jewish settlers abducting the boy. In the footage, the kidnappers can be seen forcing him into their car before speeding off.
Tibi went on saying that he would appeal to the United Nations to intervene to protect the Palestinian people against Israeli violations, noting that he is set to give a speech about it Monday in the Knesset.
“The Palestinian people need international protection. We respect life of all children, and Palestinian children’s blood is not less valuable than the Israelis' ones,” he added.
A preliminary autopsy report showed that the Palestinian teen had been burnt alive by his kidnappers, a senior Palestinian official said Saturday.
"The autopsy showed that Abu Khdeer was alive and breathing while he was being burnt," Attorney General Muhammad Abd al-Ghani told Anadolu Agency.
Israeli officials have not released their autopsy report yet.
Tension has been high in the region since three Israeli settlers – who went missing in June – were found dead Monday near the West Bank city of Hebron.
Since the abductions, Israeli forces have launched a wide-scale arrest campaign in the West Bank, detaining hundreds of Palestinians, including lawmakers and former government officials as well as a barrage of airstrikes on the besieged Gaza Strip.
No Palestinian group has claimed responsibility for the settlers' disappearance or subsequent death.Güncelleme Tarihi: 07 Temmuz 2014, 09:49
