Five members of the Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Palestinian resistance faction Hamas, were killed on Thursday inside an underground tunnel in the eastern Gaza Strip, a source close to Hamas said.
The source, speaking anonymously, did not specify how exactly the five brigades members were killed.
Dozens of Palestinian resistance fighters have been killed in the past while digging underground tunnels or participating in military training.
In March, Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh said the Qassam Brigades were using underground tunnels as a new means of resisting Israel's ongoing occupation.
The Qassam Brigades earlier claimed responsibility for digging a tunnel extending from Gaza into southern Israel, which, it said, had only been discovered by the Israeli army after it had collapsed due to heavy rainfall.Güncelleme Tarihi: 20 Haziran 2014, 11:01
