The Gaza Interior Ministry announced on Sunday jailing three security personnel for assaulting protesters and journalists last week.

"The Interior Ministry had formed a committee to investigate attacks against protesters and journalists during Nakba commemoration activities on Thursday," ministry spokesman Eiad al-Bozum said in a statement.

"The committee recommended that three security personnel be jailed for two weeks over the incidents," he added.

The committee also decided to bring some senior policemen to account for failing to take appropriate measures to prevent such attacks.

On Thursday, several Palestinian journalists accused Gaza policemen of assaulting them during a commemoration of the 66th anniversary of the Palestinian Nakba, which marks the creation of Israel.

They said the attack took place near the border fence between Gaza and Israel.

Some journalists and demonstrators had published photos of the assaulting policemen.
