Hamas political bureau chairman Khaled Mashal wanted protection for the Palestinians staying in Yarmouk refugee camp in Syria.

Mashal asked UN & Arab League envoy to Syria Lakhdar Brahimi and Arab League Secretary General Nabil el-Araby to protect the Palestinian refugees in the camp, Hamas political bureau member Izzet es-Sark told AA on Thursday.

Mashal, who spoke on the phone with Brahimi and el-Araby, wanted them to take immediate action in order to prevent Palestinians from being a target of attacks.

20 people were killed when Assad forces staged an air attack on Yarmouk refugee camp in the south of Damascus on December 16.
