"Such a decision cannot be implemented in Gaza," Hamas spokesman Ihab al-Ghusain told Anadolu Agency.
"The PA justification for taking such a decision is illogical because relations between Palestinian Muslims and Christians have always been good," he added.
On Thursday, the PA Interior Ministry began to issue IDs for citizens without specifying the bearer's religion.
Interior Ministry Undersecretary Hassan Elwi argued that the move aims to avoid having citizens treated based on their beliefs.
Al-Ghusain, however, said PA President Mahmoud Abbas "does not have the right to issue this decision because it falls within the mandate of the Palestinian legislature".
Hamas issues IDs for residents in the Gaza Strip, but it does not issue passports, because it is not recognized worldwide.
