Israeli forces opened fire Tuesday on a protest organized by Palestinians east of Gaza City near the borders with Israel, wounding two protesters.
Palestinian activists staged the protest to mark the 20th anniversary of the Ibrahimi Mosque massacre of 29 Muslims by a Jewish extremist, Health Ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qadra told Anadolu Agency.
The Israeli forces opened fire, leaving two protesters with gunshot in the leg, he added.
Several others suffered temporary asphyxiation due to the excessive use of teargas by Israeli troops, said the spokesman.
On February 25, 1994, extremist Jewish settler Baruch Goldstein opened fire on Palestinian worshippers performing morning prayers inside the Ibrahimi Mosque in the West Bank city of Al-Khalil (Hebron), killing 29 and injuring dozens.
