Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reacted to European Union's (EU) threat of enacting a law that "forbids any funding, cooperation, awarding of scholarships, research funds or prizes" to Israeli entities over the green-line" in which case Israel would not begin peace talks with Palestine.

Condemning the EU’s new guidelines, Netanyahu said he expected the EU to be concerned about issues like Syria's civil war and Iran’s nuclear program.

"As Israel's prime minister, I will not allow hundreds of thousands of Israelis living in Judea, Samaria, the Golan Heights and our united capital of Jerusalem to be harmed. We will not accept any external dictates regarding our borders" said Netanyahu after holding a meeting on the issue with Economy Minister Natafali Bennett, Justice Minister Tzipi Livni and Deputy Foreign Minister Zeev Elkin.

So far the EU has funded €750 million to 900 research projects on industry and hospitals in Israeli universities.
