Two Palestinians, including a prominent activist, were killed in an Israeli raid in the northern Gaza Strip town of Beit Hanoun in the early hours of Wednesday, a security official said.
The official said that an Israeli jet targeted a vehicle driving down the Al-Seka street in Beit Hanoun, killing Ahmed Mohamed al-Za'anin, a leading member in the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), and Mahmoud Youssef al-Za'anin.
Israeli military radio said that the Israeli air force was targeting Ahmed al-Za'anin, whom it accused of being responsible for firing rockets into the bordering Israeli towns.
Arabic-language spokesman for the Israeli army Avichay Adrae said on Twitter that al-Za'anin was behind the firing of a number of rockets into Israel during the funeral procession of former Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon last week.
Israel had announced that two rockets were fired from inside the Gaza Strip toward the southern Negev region, where Sharon's funeral procession was taking place.Güncelleme Tarihi: 22 Ocak 2014, 09:29
