Israeli army on Friday issued a “protection instructions” for Israeli civilians near border with the Gaza Strip following the end of a temporary ceasefire with Palestinian factions.
In a statement, the army said that gatherings of more than 500 civilians are forbidden in cities and towns located between 0-40 km from the Gaza Strip.
In those areas, the army said that activity of kindergartens and summer camps are only permitted when a bomb shelter is found in the immediate vicinity.
According to the statement, gatherings of more than 1,000 civilians are also forbidden in cities and towns located between 40-80 km from the Gaza Strip.
"The Israeli public must remain attentive to Home Front Command's instructions and announcements in the media," the army said.
Violence flared in the Palestinian territories on Friday following the end of a three-day ceasefire between Israel and Gaza-based Palestinian factions.
The ceasefire was brokered by Egypt following a month of incessant Israeli strikes against the Gaza Strip that left 1894 Palestinians dead and 9806 others injured. The attacks have also turned thousands of Gaza's buildings into rubble.
Palestinian factions and Israel held indirect talks in Cairo to extend the ceasefire, but no agreement was reached as Palestinian factions linked the extension to Israel's approval of their conditions, including lifting a years-long blockade on the Gaza Strip and the creation of a seaport.
The Gaza Strip, home to 1.8 million Palestinians, has been reeling under a crippling Israeli blockade since 2006, badly affecting the livelihood in the seaside enclave.Güncelleme Tarihi: 08 Ağustos 2014, 12:52
