Israeli daily newspaper Haaretz has urged the Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu to recognize the Palestinian unity government and end the blockade on the Gaza Strip, recommending it as the best exit strategy.

Israel must allow the rebuilding of Gaza after the heavy damage generated by the recent 30-day-long offensive, Haaretz said, calling on the Israeli occupation to lift the siege, open the border corssings and allow the establishing of a seaport on the Gaza coast.

Urging the rehabilitation of a strong economic foundation that would improve the Gazans’ lives and prevent renewed violence, the newspaper invited Egypt, the US and the EU to take action.

“The Palestinian unity government has to be recognized as Palestinians’ legitimate representative . . . Unless such recognition is made, Israel will be compelled to sign a provisional cease-fire bid with Hamas,” it said.

The newspaper said it is time for Netanyahu to recognize the 'rare political opportunity' through which Israel can boost up its ties with some Arab countries.
