According Ynet, a Palestinian political source has confrmed that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas announced Tuesday that the Palestinian government would resign within 24 hours. The source also said that Abbas is set to meet with Palestinian Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah. President Abbas is expected to request that Hamdallah continue as Prime Minister and form the new government.
The New York Times reported that the consensus government, which was headed by Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah, was seen as ineffective, and it has been unable to act in the Gaza strip or meaningfully lead a reconstruction effort after Israel's attack on the Gaza strip last summer.
The source also said that the government's resignation is due to its lack of ability to act in the Gaza strip and the roadblocks that Hamas have created for it.
