A young Palestinian man was injured on Wednesday after a female Jewish settler ran him over with her vehicle in the West Bank city of Bethlehem, eyewitnesses have said.
The young man was taken to a public hospital in Bethlehem, eyewitnesses told The Anadolu Agency.
In a related development, a group of Jewish settlers set fire to a Palestinian house in the southern West Bank city of Hebron in what Israeli police say was an anti-Arab "price tag" attack.
Rateb al-Jobour, an activist with the Palestinian Popular Resistance Committees, told AA that residents of the house had awoken to a fire caused by petrol bombs.
Some residents, he said, had spotted an Israeli vehicle fleeing the scene.
Israeli police spokesman Luba Samri said the incident appeared to be linked to the pro-settlement, anti-Arab "price tag" campaign, according to which extremist Jewish settlers will attack Palestinians and their property in retaliation for perceived threats to Israeli settlement expansion.
Such attacks have recently increased in frequency, both in the Israeli-occupied West Bank and inside the self-proclaimed Jewish state.
Samri said that, according to a complaint filed by the owners of the house, two masked men smashed a window and hurled a petrol bomb into their living room.
She also said that Israeli investigators at the scene had found slogans – such as "vengeance" – scrawled in Hebrew near the house.
Tension has mounted in the occupied Palestinian Territories ever since the kidnap and murder of three Israeli settlers this summer and the subsequent abduction and murder by Jewish settlers of a 16-year-old Palestinian boy.
Both incidents preceded a devastating Israeli military onslaught on the Gaza Strip in July and August that left over 2,160 Palestinians dead – the vast majority of them civilians – and some 11,000 injured.
Rising tension in Jerusalem has escalated even further since late October, when Israel briefly closed occupied East Jerusalem's flashpoint Al-Aqsa Mosque compound after an extremist rabbi was shot and injured by a Palestinian man in West Jerusalem.Güncelleme Tarihi: 31 Aralık 2014, 13:55
