The Ibdaa Cultural Centre in Bethlehem’s Al-Duheisha refugee camp organised an event on Monday in support of the Scottish Celtic Football Club after its fans waved Palestine flags when the team played against Israel’s Hapoel Beer Sheva team.
Hundreds of children attended the event to support the club, many donating their pocket money to help pay the fine issued by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA).
A number of Celtic fans raised the Palestinian flag during the game against an Israeli team. After being fined for the action, the club supporters launched the hastag #MatchTheFineForPalestine to donate money to two charities that support Palestinians, Medical Aid for Palestine and Lajee Centre in Bethlehem. The campaign has so far raised £165k for Palestine.
