Hundreds of Palestinians on Friday participated in a massive funeral for a 13-year-old boy killed by Israeli forces near the West Bank city of Ramallah one day earlier.

Mourners chanted slogans denouncing Israeli "crimes" and called for a response to what they described as Israeli "violations" against the Palestinian people.

Bahaa Badr, 13, was shot in the chest on Thursday during clashes between protesters and Israeli forces in Beit Liqya town near Ramallah.

Eyewitnesses said that the confrontations erupted after Israeli army forces stormed the town.

According to eyewitnesses, Israeli forces fired live ammunition, birdshot and teargas to disperse Palestinian youths, wounding the 13-year-old boy, who later succumbed to his injuries at hospital.

Israel has occupied the West Bank and East Jerusalem since capturing them in the 1967 war. Palestinians want the territories, along with the Gaza Strip, for a future state.

Tensions in the occupied West Bank have risen since Israel's seven-week war in Gaza began in July and killed more than 2,000 Palestinians - mostly civilians - and more than 70 Israelis, almost all of them soldiers.

Peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians mediated by the United States collapsed in April.
