Scores of Palestinians on Tuesday organized a candlelight vigil in the Gaza Strip to demand the release of Khaled al-Sheikh, a 14-year-old teen held by Israel.
During the vigil, which was organized by the Popular Committee Against the Siege NGO, participants waved photos of al-Sheikh and called for his freedom.
"Today, in besieged Gaza, we stand in solidarity with Palestinians imprisoned by the Israeli occupation," independent Palestinian lawmaker Jamal al-Khoudary told participants.
The MP called on international rights groups to "shoulder their responsibility" and pile pressures on Israel to release the ailing child.
Al-Sheikh was detained on Dec. 25 by the Israeli army in the West Bank for allegedly hurling stones. He is currently being held at Ofer Prison near the West Bank city of Ramallah.
Over 7,000 Palestinians – including 250 children – are currently languishing in prisons throughout Israel, according to the Palestinian Prisoners Society.
