Three Palestinians were wounded on Sunday by Israeli gunfire near the Erez crossing between the Gaza Strip and Israel, a Health Ministry spokesman said.

"Three Palestinians were wounded to varying degrees after being shot by Israeli soldiers near the Erez crossing in north of the Gaza Strip," Ashraf al-Qodra told The Anadolu Agency.

According to eyewitnesses, Israeli army troops opened fire on a demonstration staged by various Palestinian factions near the crossing to denounce Israel's years-long blockade of the Gaza Strip.

Israeli radio quoted army sources as saying that troops had fired at the two Palestinians after they threw rocks near a security fence.

Palestinian officials in the Gaza Strip said that the Israeli army routinely shoots on Palestinian fishing boats and farmlands in a "clear violation" to a cease-fire agreement between Palestinian factions and Israel.

The cease-fire, which was signed on August 26 under an Egyptian sponsorship, ended 51 days of relentless Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip, which killed over 2,160 Palestinians over July and August.

Ever since Palestinian faction Hamas – which Israel describes as a "terrorist" group – won 2006 legislative polls, Israel has imposed a tight blockade on the Gaza Strip.
