UAE suspends Gaza housing project

The Hamas government in the Gaza Strip announced on Sunday that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) had suspended a housing project for freed Palestinian prisoners.

"The UAE had notified us of suspending the project," Gaza Minister of Public Works and Housing Youssef al-Ghuraiz said in a statement quoted by the Palestinian Al-Ray news agency.

"We have been talking to them to reverse the decision but to no avail," he added.

The minister said the UAE has not given any reason for its decision.

The Gulf country had pledged $50 million to build a housing project for Palestinian detainees freed by Israel on an area of 100,000 square meters in central Gaza.

The UAE does not have relations with Hamas, which rules the Gaza Strip, because it considers it part of the Muslim Brotherhood.

The Saudis & the UAE are afraid if a popular movement taking over their respective governments, hence the demonizing of the Brotherhood and by extension, Hamas. The Brotherhood is bigger than the Saudis, the UAE and Egypt combined. We shall see in the near future the obvious outcome - particularly since Qatar & Turkiye are on the other side of the equation :) Hoydi medan...bring it on.
