Two Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) members who surrendered to Turkish security forces in 2011 in the southeastern province of Şırnak have been sentenced to life in prison.
The Diyarbakır 4th High Criminal Court handed down the sentences to the former PKK members during a hearing on Monday on charges of “attempting to destroy the country's unity and integrity.”
According to reports, the suspects said they were convinced to surrender by a Turkish commander who told them that they would be reunited with their families.
They also said they had never been involved in an armed attack against Turkish forces.
