Davutoglu: sanctions in region hinder Turkey's economic potential

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said Thursday Turkey's foreign policy on Iran aimed at preventing winds of fire in the region.

Speaking at the General Assembly of the Turkish Parliament, Davutoglu said that Turkey's policy was designed to eradicate the military option vis a vis Iran.

We do not want sanctions around Turkey. We do not want sanctions applied not only against Iran but for any other country as well. Our great economic potential is being hindered with such sanctions, Davutoglu said.

Touching on relations with Iraq, Davutoglu said that Turkey had deep economic and cultural relations with Iraq.

We would like to increase our contacts with neighboring countries and carry forward efforts for integration, Davutoglu said.

In regard to Turkey's new embassies in Africa, Davutoglu said that Turkey had opened 15 embassies in Africa and the Turkish flag would be present in all corners of the African continent.

The embassies in Africa are crucial for the future of Turkey, Davutoglu said.
