Turkish Prime Minister and the favorite candidate to win Turkey's upcoming presidential election on August 10, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has said that his replacement as Prime Minister should he be elected as president will be announced after the polls.

Although there has been much speculation as to who will take over from Erdogan as Prime Minister in the highly predicted outcome that he will win the elections in the first round of voting, the ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party) have named no names.

However, speaking to Kanal 24, Erdogan said that the person who replaces him would also be the party leader as two different leaders would be harmful to the party.

"I will never let the AK Party get harmed. I shared and continue to share what needs to be done to avoid any harm to the AK Party with my friends [AK Party members]. I will never let my party drown with my 40 years of political experience, just like a mother who will never let her son drown," Erdogan said, saying a new Prime Minister would be chosen within 45 days.

While a number of think tanks have already predicted Erdogan to claim a clear victory ahead of main rivals Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu and Selahattin Demirtas in the first round, voting will be extended to a second round on August 24 if necessary.

In the event of Erdogan losing the elections, due to the three-term system enforced in Turkey, Erdogan would have to step down as Prime Minister at the end of his term in 2015.
