Turkey's presidential election on August 10 will be observed by a delegation from the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe under the chairmanship of Meritxell Mateu Pi.

According to a statement issued by the assembly, the delegation will work between August 8 to 11 to observe the conduct of the upcoming election nationwide.

The delegation members will also meet with the three candidates - Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu and Selahattin Demirtas - as well as Sadi Guven, the head of the Supreme Election Board and representatives of the country's Radio and Television Supreme Council.

A six-member delegation, led by Pi, paid a pre-electoral visit to Ankara on July 21-22 to assess the electoral framework and campaign in the country.

The pre-electoral delegation called this election a "crucial moment" for Turkey's political life as the electorate are directly electing the president for the first time after a constitutional change in 2007.
