Mehmet Öcalan, the younger brother of jailed leader of PKK, is on his way to İmralı, an island prison in the Sea of Marmara.

Mehmet Öcalan went early on Monday to the Gemlik Gendarmerie Command in the western province of Bursa. He is expected to visit İmralı Prison later in the day.

Speaking to reporters before his visit, he said that he wants his brother, Abdullah Öcalan to be placed in another prison.

PKK militants began withdrawing from Turkish territory to bases in northern Iraq last month as part of a deal between the state and PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, imprisoned since 1999, to end a conflict that has killed 40,000 people.

The PKK, designated a terrorist group by Turkey, the United States and European Union, took up arms against the state in 1984 with the aim of carving out a Kurdish state.
