Turkey continues efforts to open more gates with neighbors

Turkey reached an agreement with several neighboring countries for the joint use of customs gates.

Turkish State Minister Hayati Yazici told A.A on Monday that talks were underway with Syria, Iraq and Iran for joint construction and use of customs gates, adding that Turkey reached an agreement on joint use of Esendere customs gate with Iran as well as Nusaybin customs gate with Syria.

Talks are underway for joint use of Dilucu and Kapikoy customs gates with Iran, Sinova and Ovakoy customs gates with Iraq and Oncupinar, Akcakale and Karkamis customs gates with Syria, noted Yazici.

Yazici added that the government pursued talks for "single customs gate, two customs administrations" with neighboring countries.

Noting that currently there was only one gate with Iraq (Habur), Yazici said that meetings were continuing also on opening of Sinova and Ovakoy customs gates.

Yazici added that they were holding meetings with Syria on joint use of Oncupinar, Akcakale and Karkamis customs gates in the future period.
