Turkey says Israel attacks on Gaza ship on international waters

Turkey's Maritime Undersecretary Hasan Naiboglu said that Israeli navy intercepted the convoy of six ships carrying humanitarian aid for Gazan people at a point outside its territorial waters.

Naiboglu told the A.A, "we are following the ships, 'Gaza', Blue Marmara' and Defne Y', which set sail from Turkey to Gaza at our Search-and-Rescue and Coordination Center. There are 546 passengers and 29 crew members on board the Blue Marmara ship. The other ships are carrying humanitarian aid. The ships headed for Palestine without entering territorial waters of Israel."

"Captain of the ship called us at around 4:30 a.m. and told us that Israeli navy intercepted them. We learnt that there were a number of injured people. Then, we lost contact with the ships. We think that the ships were diverted to the Israeli port of Ashdod," he said.

"Israel intercepted the ships about 70 nautical miles from the mainland. Under the international law, they do not have the right to do such a thing," he added.
