Turkey and the U.S. will determine which military base to use in the fight against ISIL, Turkey's Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said Saturday.
It is not certain yet if U.S. warplanes will be able to use the strategic Incirlik military base in southern Adana province to destroy ISIL positions, Cavusoglu said in a press conference.
"Our aim is to remove ISIL threat," Cavusoglu stressed. Turkish fighter jets began launching airstrikes on Daesh positions in Syria Friday.
Turkey announced on Friday that the U.S.-led anti-ISIL coalition could use Turkish bases to deploy its manned and unmanned aerial vehicles.
"We attach great importance to our cooperation with the U.S. and believe that it will result in an effective fight against the ISIL threat," Turkish minister said.
He said the elimination of ISILwould automatically lead to formation of safe zones in Syria and Iraq.
"We have kept saying that refugees in Turkey and neighboring countries as well as those displaced within Syria and Iraq could be placed in such safe zones," said the minister.
The Turkish minister reiterated that Turkey had put ISIL on its terror list in October 2013.
