Turkey will fight neo-Ergenekon: PM Erdogan

World Bulletin/News Desk

Turkey's Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Sunday that the government will take all necessary steps to rid Turkey of the "parallel state" allegedly led by U.S.-based scholar Fethullah Gulen

Speaking at a local election rally in the western city of Manisa, Erdogan compared the Gulen-linked bureaucrats who allegedly wiretapped top officials to the alleged Ergenekon deep state junta.

"We will fight neo-Ergenekon led by the man in Pennsylvania (Gulen) as we fought the Ergenekon deep-state," said Erdogan.

Erdogan said the Gulen movement's alleged wiretapping of top officials, including himself and the president, make them a national security threat which the government will take all necessary steps to combat.

He also warned the electorate against "tricks" during the upcoming March 30 municipal elections, he claimed are likely to be played by Gulen movement members.

As the corruption increases, and the freedoms that are internalized by turkish people for decades start becoming luxuries, as unthinkable governmental acts as meddling with the judiciary become daily affairs.... A strategy that is very familiar to us turks kicks in: Blame, shout, hate, cry, self-victimize, kill, beat, arrest, bribe, silence... Shameless politics at its best. As all political scientists know, however, these are only the pains of a regime that is bound to die.
