Turkey's HSYK to launch project to raise awareness of ECHR rulings

World Bulletin / News Desk

Turkey's Supreme Board of Judges and Prosecutors (HSYK) is planning to launch a project aimed at raising the awareness of judges and prosecutors about the rulings of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR).

The project, which will be implemented between 2012 and 2014, aims to ensure that judges and prosecutors take the rulings of the Strasbourg-based court into consideration when they make their rulings.

Some of the judges and prosecutors who will be sent to the European court as part of the project are expected to make references to the court's rulings after they return to Turkey.

Each of the judges and prosecutors who will be sent to ECtHR will be asked to examine an ECtHR ruling within a period of two months after they return and their examinations will be shared with other judiciary members in a forum.
