Turkey's deputy prime minister said on Wednesday that the government was aware of its responsibility against PKK attacks, adding diplomatic aspect of such issue was as important as its security aspect.
Speaking to reporters following the Council of Ministers meeting in capital Ankara, Turkish State Minister & Deputy Premier Bulent Arinc commented on Turkish General Staff Chief Gen. Ilker Basbug's recent remarks on the fight against PKK.
Noting that Basbug's statements had been widely covered by the media, but they had not been on the agenda of today's Council of Ministers meeting, Arinc said, "fighting with terrorism is the duty of the government. Security constitutes only one dimension of the matter. Its diplomatic aspect is as important as security".
Arinc said, in addition to precautions related to security, political, economic and social measures were needed in such fight.
"The government has to be aware of its responsibility, assess the issue taking into consideration all the aspects of the matter and take the necessary actions. Our government has no weakness in that sense," Arinc said.
The deputy premier also said that the government's determination regarding the fight against PKK attacks increased with each passing day.
Pointing to Turkey's relations with neighboring countries as well, Arinc said that Turkey cooperated closely with its neighbors Syria and Iran in its fight with the terrorist organization.
