Turkish President Abdullah Gul, who is on a two-day visit to the southeastern province of Diyarbakir, appeared on state-run Kurdish language broadcaster TRT-6 on Friday.

Turkish President Abdullah Gul, who is on a two-day visit to the southeastern province of Diyarbakir, appeared on state-run Kurdish language broadcaster TRT-6 on Friday.

Following his tour of historical sites in the city, Gul spoke to TRT-6 about his visit. He said Diyarbakir had been an important hub of not only Anatolia but also the Middle East in history.

"It is a gate for the East," he said in his remarks translated into Kurdish.

President Gul also addressed people of Diyarbakir during his tour in the city.

"We have been brothers and sisters for over 1,000 years. All this love and affection I have seen here is shown to our nation, our state and our country in my personality. We will keep this fraternity and friendship alive forever," Gul said.

"Differences of this country is our riches," he said. "They all belong to the Republic of Turkey. All the people living here are equal citizens of the Republic of Turkey.
