Head of the Higher Education Board (YÖK) Yusuf Ziya Özcan has said that YÖK will continue to represent change and dynamism in the face of the status quo and the establishment.

Tweeting about a court decision to launch an investigation into Özcan over his support for the removal of the headscarf ban, Özcan wrote, "I leave it up to the public to decide on a mentality that sees it a crime to support our students' attendance in classes in outfits in which they can feel free and comfortable." He also left the same comment on his Facebook page.

He wrote on both sites that he had not received an official notice but had read in the newspapers that a probe had been launched into his activities as YÖK president. "My duty is to make sure that our students get the best education and under the best conditions."

He said he was going to take the necessary legal steps concerning the ruling in the following days.
