The US ambassador to Turkey, has said that while America supports the PYD, its foreign policy also supports other groups as well. In his statement he also denied allegations that they support the PYD backed Kurdish state project and stated that they were "very uncomfortable" with that claim. In answer to a question about why there was no support to Syrian opposition groups who are fighting against ISIL, he claimed that "we support the opposition".

In an interview with Saadet Oruc from Star newspaper, the ambassador said that conspiracy rumours of the regarding the fact that the US was seeking to change the demographic of the region including that of Turkey's borders as part of a bigger plan made him "very uncomfortable".

The ambassador failed to explain why the US did not list the PYD, the armed faction of the PKK was not placed on the terror groups list

The ambassador also stated that the US was providing military support to the PYD.
