Under the shadow of guns, Muslims in Afghanistan, where extreme poverty has been enforced for decades are preparing to mark the holy month of Ramadan, which is to be start on Tuesday.
The public market in Afghanistan’s capital city of Kabul is one of the main destinations for “Ramadan shopping”. The shopkeepers in food markets are happy with the dynamism in the eve of Ramadan, when Muslims fast from sunrise until sunset for a month.
People came the market for food say prices are good for them. Various kinds of sweets, dates as well as snacks special to Ramadan are already on the market shelves.
One of the shopkeepers named Khalid also said Ramadan brought abundance as he is doing a good business. Talking to Cihan news agency the Afghan seller noted “We all experience the abundance in Ramadan. We sometimes even cannot respond to demands of customers.”
On the other hand, one of the Afghan costumers, Mensur has complained about the rise in prices. “I will buy some food for breakfast like jam. Although the prices are a little high, this market is the best place for shopping.”
