World Bulletin / News Desk

Three soldiers were martyred Friday by a bomb planted along a highway by the PKK extremist organization in Turkey's southeastern province of Mardin, security sources said.

According to the sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to the media, PKK extremists detonated the explosive as a military vehicle was traveling along the Mardin-Diyarbakir highway.

Ambulances immediately rushed to the scene and took the wounded to local hospitals.

An operation was launched in the region to apprehend the extremists.

The PKK – listed as a extremist organization by Turkey, the U.S., and EU – resumed its decades-old armed campaign in July 2015.

Since then, PKK extremist attacks have martyred more than 700 security force members and also claimed the lives of many civilians, including women and children, while around 8,000 PKK extremists have been killed or apprehended.
