Four PKK terrorists were killed in a military operation in the southeastern province of Hakkari on Friday, officals said.

In a statement published on its website, the Hakkari governor's office said the terrorists were killed in the village of Ikiyaka in Yuksekova district.

“Four separatist terror organization members were neutralized as the result of fire by Firtina howitzers,” the statement said.

An investigation regarding the incident is underway, it added.

In separate statement on Friday, the Turkish Armed Forces said jets destroyed PKK shelters and ammunition depots in northern Iraq on Thursday.

The strikes targeted PKK positions in the Qandil, Matina and Gara regions.

Air raids on PKK targets in southeast Turkey and northern Iraq, where the terror group has its main base in the Qandil mountains near the Iranian border, have been carried out regularly since July 2015, when the PKK resumed its armed campaign.

The PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the EU and U.S. -- has killed more than 1,200 Turkish security personnel and civilians since taking up arms again.
