Strong winds and heavy rain have hit air and sea transportation in Istanbul, Turkey’s biggest city, on Monday.
Turkish Airlines announced that it had cancelled some flights due to the bad weather conditions. Flights between Istanbul’s Ataturk Airport and Ankara, Antalya, Budapest, Zagreb and Tel Aviv were cancelled as a result of heavy winds, the airlines said.
Sea traffic around the city and between provinces also was disrupted. Some trees were torn down along the city’s coastlines.
Experts had warned that Istanbul could expect to see heavy rain and flash floods during the winter following a summer of sudden storms and tornadoes.
