At least 18 suspects have been arrested during anti-narcotics operations across Turkey, security sources said on Thursday.
In Istanbul, local gendarmerie units apprehended three suspects and seized 25 kilograms (55 pounds) of heroin in a sniffer dog-supported raid targeting drug traffickers across the city, said one of the sources, who asked not to be named due to restrictions on talking to the media.
In the southeastern province of Sanliurfa, three suspects were arrested and 4.5 kg (10 lb.) of hashish were seized during the raid when security forces stopped a car on the Sanliurfa-Diyarbakir highway.
Separately, in the western Kutahya-based anti-drug operation, police arrested seven suspects in simultaneous operations in three different provinces.
In another operation, an Afghan suspect was arrested after 420 drug pills and 11 grams of methamphetamine were seized from his house in central Anatolian province of Eskisehir.
In eastern Elazig province, four suspects were arrested and 60 cannabis roots were seized during an operation.
