Turkey's Minister of Development, Cevdet Yilmaz, said on Wednesday that the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) is planning to develop a Turkish national search engine.
Responding to a parliamentary question, Yilmaz announced that the government has allocated 100 million Turkish Lira (approximately 44 million U.S. dollars) for a "data research project" which includes developing a search engine.
Yilmaz said that the search engine, along with the wider data research project, will be completed in 2016.
